What Changed
A national live-events company replaced its legacy user management system with a fully automated provisioning pipeline. Over 300 users were migrated from the legacy ABIS platform to Intelli Event Lightning (IEL), new user provisioning was automated through Microsoft Entra ID, and venue directors gained a custom front-end to manually provision technician accounts — eliminating manual data transfers, reducing onboarding errors, and giving the company direct control over its staff and venue management technology.
Where They Started
Pinnacle Live is a live-events company that manages staff and venues across the country. The company was using a legacy system called ABIS to manage its staff, technicians, and venue information. Pinnacle Live had already begun synchronising user data from ABIS into Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), but the target was to move entirely to Intelli Event Lightning (IEL) as the primary platform for staff and venue management. The challenge had two dimensions: first, migrating the 300-plus users already in ABIS over to IEL; and second, automating the process so that any new user added to Microsoft Entra ID would automatically be provisioned with an IEL account, eliminating the need for manual data entry going forward.
What Was Breaking
The legacy ABIS system was a bottleneck. User provisioning was manual, slow, and error-prone. Every new staff member or technician required manual data transfers between systems, creating delays in onboarding and risk of data inconsistency. Pinnacle Live had already started manually migrating to IEL on their own but needed help completing it at scale and building the automation to make the new system self-sustaining. Additionally, venue directors needed the ability to manually provision technician accounts, a requirement that emerged mid-project, which the existing setup could not accommodate without a custom solution.
How The Zig Fixed It
The Zig delivered the project in two phases, with a single developer working directly with Pinnacle Live's primary contact. Phase one focused on migrating the remaining 300-plus users from ABIS to IEL, completing the bulk transfer that Pinnacle Live had started but could not finish at scale. Phase two built the automation layer: whenever a new user is added to Microsoft Entra ID, a background process automatically creates a corresponding IEL account in real time. No manual intervention required. On top of this, The Zig built a custom front-end application that allows venue directors to search for technicians by name and provision their IEL accounts with the click of a button, giving non-technical staff a simple, controlled way to manage technician onboarding. The entire project was completed in approximately 8 weeks.

What It Unlocked
Pinnacle Live now operates on a modern, automated user management infrastructure. New staff are provisioned in real time without manual data entry, reducing onboarding time and eliminating the errors that came with the legacy process. Venue directors have a self-service tool for technician provisioning that fits naturally into their workflow. The legacy ABIS system has been retired, removing a layer of technical debt and simplifying the company's technology stack. The client reported that the automation and custom front-end significantly improved their operational efficiency, and the project demonstrated that a single, focused developer can deliver a complete custom software solution within a tight timeframe when communication and collaboration are strong.
What This Taught Us
The best custom software projects are not the ones where requirements are locked on day one — they are the ones where the team is flexible enough to absorb changes without losing momentum. Pinnacle Live's requirements evolved throughout the engagement, and the ability to adapt while still delivering on a tight timeline was what made the project successful.
