A broken marketplace.
Now moving $500K a month.

VaultWrx came to The Zig with a funeral services platform that barely worked. We stabilised it, rebuilt it from the ground up, then engineered the payment and performance layers it needed to scale — and we’re still building on it today.

Where they started

A marketplace
nearly non-functional.

VaultWrx connects funeral service retailers with the families they serve — caskets, vaults, cremation services, and everything in between, sold through a single marketplace layer. When The Zig first engaged in 2022, that marketplace could barely stay online.

Core functionality was unreliable. The experience frustrated both retailers and consumers. Years of accumulated technical debt made every fix harder than the last, and the system couldn’t reliably handle the transaction volume the business needed to grow.

Before

Nearly non-functional platform. Persistent bugs, poor performance, no path to scale.

After

Fully rebuilt platform supporting 15+ retailers, ~700 orders a month each, ~$500K moving through it monthly.

How we got here

Three engagements.
One platform, still growing.

01
Phase One — Stabilise

Stop the bleeding first.

The Zig revamped the existing site, resolved the bugs that were breaking core workflows, and shipped functionality the platform was missing entirely — including invoice generation and PDF export. The work earned trust fast, and trust earned the next contract.

02
Phase Two — Rebuild

A platform built to actually scale.

Rather than patch an architecture that couldn’t support growth, The Zig rebuilt VaultWrx from scratch — engineered for reliability and for onboarding larger retailers without degrading. Development hasn’t stopped since: weekly feature releases, driven directly by retailer feedback.

03
Phase Three — Pay & Scale

Money moving, at volume, without crashing.

With the foundation solid, The Zig built a complete Stripe-powered payment system and re-engineered the platform’s performance layer — eliminating the crashes that had been capping growth and unlocking VaultWrx’s largest retailers yet.

The payment system

Money in.
Invoices out.
Automatically.

VaultWrx is a multi-party marketplace — customers, retailers, and the platform itself all need to be paid, tracked, and reconciled. Before The Zig, that flow didn’t exist as a system. It existed as a patchwork of workarounds, with every new retailer adding more administrative overhead.

Customer

Pays a retailer

Directly through the VaultWrx platform — one checkout experience, regardless of retailer.

Built by The Zig

Stripe payment engine

Full transaction lifecycle, end to end, designed to scale with every new retailer onboarded.

Retailer

Settles through Stripe

Consistent, automated, no more managing payments outside the platform.

Outcome

Automated invoicing engine

Every transaction generates a downloadable PDF invoice automatically — no manual admin, no fragmented records, one unified view of transaction history across the network.

The performance problem

It crashed under load.
Now it doesn’t.

Smaller retailers ran fine. But as VaultWrx attracted bigger clients with higher order volumes, the original architecture hit a ceiling — and the platform crashed under high-volume periods. Each crash meant lost transactions, frustrated retailers, and real damage to VaultWrx’s credibility with exactly the clients it needed to grow.

Performance is not a technical metric — it is a business capability.

What The Zig learned, building for VaultWrx
Before The Zig
After The Zig
Before

Platform crashes under high order volumes. Large retailers were a risk to avoid, not a growth strategy. Every spike in traffic was a liability instead of an opportunity.

After

Stable performance under real-world load. VaultWrx’s largest retailers yet are onboarding — recommended by the retailers already on the platform. Scale is now a selling point.

What we built it with

The work, broken down.

01

Document Automation

Invoice generation and PDF export, built directly into the platform’s core workflow.

02

Data Unification

A single source of truth for transaction history across every retailer on the network.

03

Platform Re-architecture

A ground-up rebuild engineered for reliability, scale, and weekly iteration.

What it unlocked

From a broken product
to a reliable foundation.

VaultWrx now runs a stable, scalable marketplace that retailers actively recommend to one another. Clients with substantially higher order volumes than anything previously on the platform are coming on board — something that simply wasn’t possible on the original system. The Zig keeps shipping features every week, in direct response to what retailers actually need next.
